Welcome

Live steam models on 7¼" gauge of the Württembergische T3 and on 5"gauge Great Eastern Railway Y14 class

Welcome to this blog. It will inform you about the progress of designing and building live steam model locomotives. The blog contains the description of a model Würrtembergische T3 on 7¼" gauge (constructed between 2006 and 2017), the wagons for this loco (built between 2018 and 2022), and the current project a 5" gauge model of a Great Eastern Railway Y14 class loco (started in 2020)

On the left you'll find the index where you can browse the different articles and on the right you'll find all the extras.  You'll find a brief description of my other locos on the top tabs.

On tour. Driving in Schackendorf

The first week of July is the traditional "Insider Treffen" at 'Dampfbahnclub Holstein"  in Schackendorf (north of Hamburg, Germany). This is a great event, where many model engineers from Germany, Austria, and The Netherlands are coming. Their wonderful track layout of more than 1500 meters, with bridges, tunnels, double track, big sidings and station roads makes it a great driving experience. There is a signal box (Stellwerk), which you can phone from the line side and request a route to drive, or set the signals and points yourself with switches beside the track. This makes driving and shunting really fun.

It is not only driving that is nice to do, but also meeting fellow model engineers, exchanging ideas, and experiences, and getting technical advice.

The friendly atmosphere, hospitality and great food make this week one of the best steam outings of the season. Although the weather was a mixed bag, we had a lovely time. Many thanks to the organizers of this great event.

Schackendorf Insider Treffer 2024

A coffee stop along the road. It's for us a trip of 550 km to Schackendorf.

Robert from Austria brought his excellent BBÖ Reihe 178 tank engine.

Live steam models

Almost like the real thing 😀

Eitel brought his steam tractor. The last time we saw it was at Nienoord, Leek. This was also a great steam event but it no longer exists.

It turned out to be a fast and strong tractor!!

Last night.

Packing for the return trip

Breakfast on our last day.

We even made it into the local newspaper.
